Living with braces or aligners
Teeth feel tender for a few days after each adjustment. That is normal and settles quickly.
- Eat soft food for the first few days.
- With braces, avoid hard and sticky food like toffee, nuts and ice.
- Wear aligners 20–22 hours a day and brush before putting them back in.
- Wear your retainer exactly as advised, even years later.

Am I too old for braces?
No. If your gums and bone are healthy, teeth can be moved at any age.
Are aligners as good as braces?
For many cases, yes. Some complex movements are still better with braces — we’ll tell you honestly which suits you.
How long will it take?
Usually between 6 and 24 months, depending on how much the teeth need to move.
